Christmas Time

Meanwhile Christmas time is here again and it is the most wonderful time of the year.

Dear ones, when I was growing up Christmas was about food, family, presents and holidays from school.  And it was one of the happiest times of the year.  Having been raised in an Anglican family, I have always had a deep connection to the birth of Jesus Christ.

And tomorrow will be Christmas Eve, the night before Christmas.  Eventually it is the most magical nights of the year.  But at the same time children around the world believe that Christmas Father is real and they wonder what time he is going to arrive.

In fact, regardless of the time, they would not go to bed.  As they are too anxious that Father Christmas will not turn up.  Moreover when I was a child I was told to go to bed early.  And if I didn’t, Father Christmas will not bring my gifts. It amazes me how Christmas time brings back childhood memories of the magical past.  Formerly at home on the islands we had tropical Casuarina trees.  Prior to Christmas all families went out to find one for their homes.

No doubt we decorated them with glittery balls and balloons.    However, I still see myself as that little girl who sat on the floor in front of the freshly cut tree. I was surrounded by boxes of ornaments collected over the years.

Christmas is as old as the Family itself

Today I have my own family and my home.  Every Christmas we bring out our trunk to deck the halls.  An old Trunk keeps memories that are many years old. It is where the Christmas tinsels and old cards are kept.  Christmas is a time that brings back old memories of friends, families and childhood. The Old Christmas Cards

The old Christmas cards are read year after year of what the people who came into our life wrote to us. Some of them may have travelled far away. Some of them may have departed for their tranquillity. Some of them we still meet once in a blue moon. Many of them are still around and once in a while we make moments together. And a few of them we don’t see or hear from them, but we know people do get busy in their lives like we all do.  However their memories linger in our trunk. Honestly old Christmas cards are beautiful memories and inspirations. It is about the writing that was handwritten.  At that moment the person was writing the card, their thoughts of us were real and original.  And that was not “emoticons,” it was a reality that was enfolding in that moment of time.  Every Christmas when we open our old trunk and we read the cards it is a recollection of how we met, and the days we spent together.  It is like a piece of them lives in our trunk.  At the same time it’s a souvenir we will treasure forever.

Finally I want to wish you and yours a Merry Christmas!
